When we look at the term Spa historically we can see that its roots go back to the Roman Empire. The places which were built for the Roman soldiers and where the Roman soldiers who came back to Rome tired, wounded, and exhausted were healed in the baths were called "Sanus Per Aquam" (SPA) which means "health that comes from water". In fact during this era, a city which was called Spa was established in Belgium for this purpose, and this city became famous and well-known in the 14th century. The Spa culture which was started out in the Roman times, but developed in the rest of Europe in different ways and manners has covered within the history many such therapies as mineral waters, sea water usage, and many other similar therapies. In the Spa culture, the principal and fundamental theme historically comes into existence in the first place and the defining form of this is called hydrotherapy.
And at the same time even the places where people`s all kinds of needs and expectations are met according to the sort of their problems and where the health of people were developed better and also even beauty centers are also given the name Spa. That is to say, the word SPA health center means health club, and a recreational and therapy facility.
